„Hunting: the driving of the game and the rustling of the forest, but most importantly the rustling of the forest.”
(Count Zsigmond Szécsenyi)
Szeklerland is located in Eastern Transylvania and is a region mostly inhabited by Hungarians (Szeklers). It comprises the central and southeast ranges of the Eastern Carpathians, as well as the peripheral regions of the Transylvanian Plain. Counties belong to this region such as Harghita and Covasna, a part of Mureș county, as well as small portions of Alba and Cluj counties, but also several areas of Neamţ and Bacău counties (Moldavia). From a phytogeographical point of view Szeklerland appertains to the Carpaticum plant region having a very rich flora. The most cherished heritage of the region is the forest which covers vast areas and harbors varied wildlife stock. Due to the diversity of plant regions (hornbeams, beeches, oaks, conifers, as well as alpine fauna) the fauna of Szeklerland is extremely rich: besides brown bears that are so typical for mountain landscapes, the region is home to wild boars, red deer, roe deer, foxes, capercaillies and lynxes. Just a stone’s throw away, in the Făgăraş mountains an animal species lives typically for rocky regions: the Carpathian Chamois.
Many records have been established in this region. In 2011 Sándor Rancz, a well-known hunter in the region brought down in the vicinity of Mereni a deer of 262.53 points, the trophy weighing 15 kg (33 lbs). Hunting grounds are characterized by a rare beauty and an untouched nature. The picturesque surroundings offer great opportunities for relaxation, as well as plenty of exciting and unique adventures.
The accommodation offered suits all possible needs of our customers and comprises everything from rustic cabins and inns to hotels which guarantee comfort and pampering. Moreover, the Szekler cuisine is also surprisingly diverse: visitors can sample dishes born out of the fusion of several ethnic groups. The preparation traditions of game and the recipes based on it are also unique. Apart from hiking and hunting we also bring you an alternative cultural program for your loved ones and relatives, for the area is infused with not only the Hungarian-Szekler, but also the Csango, the German, the Armenian and Romanian traditions and culture.
We are looking forward to your visit!
Good luck and good hunting!
